Dr Kar Yin Fok is a specialist general and colorectal surgeon. She graduated with Honours in Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery and a Bachelor of Science (Medicine) Honours from the University of New South Wales, and holds a Master of Surgery from the University of Sydney. She completed her general surgical training within the Western Sydney network and was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2020.

Following this, Dr Fok undertook further subspecialty training in acute surgery at Nepean Hospital and colorectal surgery at Royal North Shore Hospital. She then completed the two-year Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand (CSSANZ) training program at Westmead Hospital and also the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital. She is furthering her skills in robotic colorectal surgery with a fellowship at Sydney Adventist Hospital.

Her clinical interests span all aspects of colorectal surgery, including colorectal cancer, proctology, endometriosis, and pelvic floor disorders. She also performs colonoscopy, laparoscopic procedures, and manages general surgical conditions such as hernias and gallstone disease.

Dr Fok is a Clinical Senior Lecturer with the Australian National University and is actively involved in surgical education and research.

Research

Dr Kar Yin Fok's research focuses on improving outcomes in colorectal surgery. She has published on topics ranging from anastomotic perfusion using indocyanine green (ICG) to presentations of haematochezia. Her ongoing work includes studies on robotic colorectal surgery outcomes. She has presented at major surgical meetings, including the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons Annual Scientific Congress.
